Dot NAME Domain Names

Set up in 2001, the .NAME universal top-level domain name extension is the single TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. Initially, only third-level registrations were permitted, so if you wanted to secure john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already registered 3rd-level names remained operational.
